Irene Frances Boatright 70, of Athena Oregon, passed away at her home December 27, 2017. Irene was born to Leroy & Leona Keene, in Lancaster, California on May 14, 1947. Most of her childhood was spent in Lancaster, however the family relocated to Rainier, Oregon where she graduated from high school in 1965. California dreaming, Irene moved back to Lancaster where she later met and married the love of her life, Edwin T Boatright, or "Mr. B" as she so lovingly referred to him. Irene and Ed completed their family with their son, Jessie, and daughter, Wyndi. As a young family they planted roots in Athena, Oregon in 1982, where Irene would become a successful business woman. She owned and managed a movie video rental store for 15 years and later a tax consultant business for the last 25 years. Her vast knowledge of tax law and book keeping skills earned her the respect of her peers and a solid customer base. Her vast knowledge of life, love and altruism earned her the respect of all who knew her as she was voted the 2005 Athena Citizen of the Year. Irene’s accomplishments were many and well deserved. A devout Christian, Irene gave love, kindness, compassion and second chances to any who asked, and all who didn't. All roads to Irene’s soul were paved with her love for arts and crafts, music, collectables, table games, holiday festivities, cooking, reading, travel, surfing the web, late night info commercial shopping sprees and most of all family. Irene is survived by her husband Ed T Boatright of Athena, son Jesse Boatright of Athena, daughter Wyndi Kannier of Pendleton, daughter Denise Lundeen, grand children: Airmen Blake Kannier of Misawa, Japan; Jenni Kannier of Bend, Oregon and Bailey Kannier of Pendleton, Oregon; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

In closing a prayer for Irene. Walking along a beach, sand between her toes, humming a gospel hymn, and speaking with Jesus, where angels reside, singing songs to live your life by, it was overheard, it was said, that in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make, now go rest lover-dover-doo, .... Goodnight Irene.

I met Irene thru my husband Ed. She was doing his taxes back in 1982. I visited her video shop often as we both lived in Athena. She also prepared my taxes for years. A very wonderful person. She will be missed. Love to all her family. May our good Lord give each of you the courage except God's will in her passing.

Ed, I am so sorry to hear of Irene's passing. The first thing I think of when remembering Irene is her contagious and joyful laughter, always smiling. The goodies she would bring into the office to celebrate your birthday said so much about her love for you. You and your kids are in my prayers. RIP Irene.....

I never had the pleasure of meeting Irene but am a fellow American Legion Auxiliary member in La Grande. I talked to one of her friends today, Linda Pickard, and I would like to express my deepest sympathies to all of you. I wish I had been able to meet her.
