Marilyn Seegert Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Marilyn Jane Seegert on April 2, 2024.

Marilyn was born on March 11, 1940 in Elgin, Illinois to Arthur and Jane Whitcomb. The youngest of three children, she grew up surrounded by music and laughter that would shape the joy and humor she would carry for the rest of her life.

Marilyn graduated from Elgin High School in 1958. She would go on to earn her beautician’s license in Chicago. In 1961, she married the love her life, US Navy veteran Dave Seegert. They were blessed with three daughters. Dave’s career took the family to Edon, Ohio where they lived for six years before finally settling in Pendleton, Oregon in 1980.

While being a mother and homemaker gave her the most joy, Marilyn was also employed by Hallmark and the Pendleton school district, and from 1986-1996 owned and operated the Harvester Restaurant with Dave. For many years, Marilyn was an active member of the Pendleton country club. An avid golfer, she also enjoyed music, movies, sewing, bowling, camping, attending local theater, and cheering on her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their school and sporting events. The latest joy of her life was her dog, Sammy, who never left her side.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters Pam (Roy) Breshears (Pendleton, OR); Kim Baehmann (Salem, OR); Toni Stewart (St. Helens, OR); grandchildren Scott (Heidi) Breshears (Pendleton, OR); Sandy Ribera (Pendleton, OR); Steven (Monica) Breshears (Pendleton, OR); Stephanie (Cory) Ellenberger (Pendleton, OR); Jenni Baehmann (Salem, OR); Nick Baehmann (Salem, OR); Tim (Celia) Stewart (Pendleton, OR); Jacob Stewart, (Pendleton, OR); her nine great-grandchildren; her sister Janice Bruneman (Elgin, Illinois); and her many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dave, her parents, and her brother Ed Whitcomb. Loved by all who knew her, she will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Vange John Memorial Hospice for their gentle care and support. Donations can be made to their organization in Marilyn’s name. Thank you, also, to Marilyn’s friend Bill for his unwavering love and concern.

A private family memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Burns Mortuary will be assisting the family with arrangements.
