Dolores Louise Olsen passed away on April 3, 2017, in Pendleton.  She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 16, 1924, to John Traas and Lousie M. Fischer Traas.  Dolores was raised in and around Milwaukee along with her three brothers.  She graduated from North Division High School in 1942.  As part of the war effort, she worked at Globe-Union testing airplane radar condensers.    She met the love of her life, Lester F. Olsen, while he was on naval school training in the area.  After a whirl wind courtship of 14 days, they were engaged.  They were married at the end of the war, on October 13, 1945, in Pendleton at Peace Lutheran Church.  She and Lester were married 56 years prior to his death on April 8, 2002.

Dolores came west to the wilds of Eastern Oregon to live in Pendleton, the hometown of Lester.  She worked for the City of Pendleton for a number of years, prior to the birth of their first child.  She then became a homemaker, raising five children while living near Helix.  After they became empty nesters, she began work for ECOAC as a cook at the Senior Citizen Center, until retiring in 1989.

Lester and her family were the center of her life.  She was a 4-H Leader and Blue Bird Leader for many years.  She loved to sew, bake and scrapbook.  She especially enjoyed travelling, volksmarching, folk dancing and roller skating, along with playing pinochle and bunco, or any other game.  She always attended the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Dolores was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, being confirmed at the age of 13.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for 71 years, and had been active in many aspects of the church.  Her church family was very important to her.

Her parents, husband Lester, four brothers and a sister predeceased her.  She is survived by her children and their spouses:  John and Marilyn Olsen, Marlene Tidwell, Jim and Kim Olsen, Marcia and Michael Flemmer, and Douglas and Mary Olsen.  Also surviving are her grandchildren:  Kelly, Erik, Paul, Colby, Adam, Rebecca, Jacob, Jason, Sarah and Elizabeth, 16 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Nancy Traas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church.  Donations in her memory may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Umatilla County Historical Society, PAWS, or a charity of your choice.
