Joan Elizabeth (Hinkle) Harrison, 87, of Pilot Rock passed away on March 19, 2017.  Joan was born in Pilot Rock to Ray and Agnes (Pedro) Hinkle, she joined two older brothers.  She grew up on a farm. From a young age she declined to wear shoes unless absolutely necessary; a trait that carried throughout her life.  During her Junior year of high school she met her love, Joseph D Harrison on the tennis court, he was visiting his sister in Pilot Rock after serving in the War. Joan graduated in the June of 1947. She and Joseph were married the following September.  The two welcomed four sons; Joseph, Gene, Jack, and Wes. With her husband's career as a logger often times out of town, Joan was left to be the disciplinarian - with 4 boys this was a role that she perfected. Joan was a diehard sports fan, there was never a time that her boys or grandchildren had to look up to see if she was there.  Her passion for local sports carried into the boys' adult years playing on the city league.  She never missed these games either. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the mountains. Seven years ago her battle with rheumatoid arthritis compromised Joan's ability to walk.  Her family took loving care of her at home, fondly betting various sporting events with her that they would catch on TV.  Joan followed the Seahawks and Mariners closely along with any team the Manning brothers played for. You could always count on her betting against the Yankees or Cowboys.  No one could compete with the caliber of molasses cookies that Joan made, she had this recipe dialed down to a science. In addition to Joan's passion of family, sports, and making the most glorious cookies out there she always made time for the Lord.  As a lifetime parishioner of St. Helens Catholic Church in Pilot Rock you could count on her attendance.  Her church family continued to visit and provide Communion even after she was no longer able to attend Mass.  Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D Harrison, her brothers; William (Bill) and Wayne. She is survived by her children; Joseph Harrison, Gene Harrison, Jack (Joan) Harrison, Wes (K'lene) Harrison, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  A Rosary will be held at St. Helens on Friday, March 24, 2017, at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 10:00 am  at Saint Helens Catholic Church in Pilot Rock. Contributions in the memory of Joan Harrison may be made to Saint Helens Catholic Church.

Prayers and special thoughts for Joan - and for the family. Joan was just such a lovely, caring, gentle woman - I didn't know her well, but always enjoyed seeing her and visiting for a few minutes when I was back in PR.
Rest in peace, Joan - - the angels have led you into Paradise!
