Michael Allen Reed

Michael (Mike) Allen Reed, 66, of Pendleton, passed away June 5, 2016 at KADLEC Regional Medical Center in Richland.

He was born in Pendleton, Oregon to Marvin and Sharon (Farrow) Reed on June 15, 1949.  He was an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Tribes (CTUIR).

Mike was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was a farmer, business man, mechanic, and he was well known as the Indian Lake Caretaker.  As a mechanic, if a person described their problem he could diagnose and help them fix their problem. He also raised Rottweilers. Mike was a hunter and a fisherman. He was at home being in the mountains. He found the perfect job for him as the Indian Lake Caretaker. He was the Caretaker from 2007-2015.  While the Caretaker, he was assisted by his Rottweiler, Jennifer. He had helped many stranded campers, motorists, and friends & family. Mike had a big heart and would help those in need. They would ride in the Dress-Up Parade and represent Indian Lake.

Mike was a member of the CTUIR Law & Order Committee and the CTUIR Tribal Farm Committee. He was the secretary of the Tribal Farm Committee.

He is survived by his sister Bertha Hackney, Pendleton; brother Kenneth Reed, Pendleton; sister Cathy McClain, Bend; and Charles Reed, Salem and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mike in death include his parents, his two nieces, Julie (Hackney) Dusenberry, Teresa Hackney, and his faithful companion Jennifer.

At his request, he was cremated. Memorial services will be Saturday, June 25, 2016 at St. Andrews Catholic Church at 3 pm. Dinner to follow at Kateri Hall.  Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements.

Mike, I will to miss your Helping Hand, friendly face, and your very presence in this life. I hope you and Jennifer are happy and can keeping each other company but I wish you were here and I wish I could have said goodbye but I couldn't stay at the hospital because you were in so much pain. My only consolation is that you are now painfree.
