Robert Michael “Mike” Shailer

December 28, 1946 - April 20, 2016

Robert Michael “Mike” Shailer died unexpectedly on April 20, 2016, in Pendleton.  He was born on December 28th, 1946, in Santa Barbara, CA, to James Paul and Maxine (Roth) Shailer.  Mike was an enrolled member of the Cherokee-Delaware Tribes and had lived in Pendleton for over 30 years.

After attending college at Nevada State, Mike worked at Hanford as a soil technician and also for the City of Pendleton.  He also served as a caregiver for his mother in California when she became ill.

Mike had many interests and hobbies.  In his earlier years, he participated in rodeo events until a back injury forced him to stop.  He enjoyed leatherwork and beadwork and created custom belts for family members which they treasure immensely.

Mike is survived by his brother James Paul Shailer, his sister Deann Brown, and his loving friend and companion of 30 years, Vickie Johnson.  He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews who deeply loved their “Uncle Mike”.

Mike will be remembered as a kind, gentle man who was proud of his family and loved them all – from the babies to the elders.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held Monday evening, April 25, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Mission.  Interment will follow at Athena Cemetery in Athena, Oregon.  Sign the online guestbook at  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
