Zana E. Shuman

February 20, 1936 – January 13, 2016


Zana E. Shuman, a resident of Pendleton passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, WA.  She was 79 years old. 

A Graveside Service will be held at the Lostine Cemetery on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 1:30 p.m.. Following the graveside service there will be a celebration of life gathering at the Wallowa Senior Center located at 204 2nd Street in Wallowa, Oregon.  All friends and family are welcome.

Zana Elaine Shuman was born February 20, 1936, in Enterprise, Oregon, to Ralph and Bernice (Conrad) Lindley.  She was raised in Flora, Oregon, where she attended Flora Grade School, then moved to La Grande in 1948, where she graduated from La Grande High School.  She married Joseph Shuman on August 27, 1955 in Lewiston, Idaho.  They lived in Flora until 1987.  After retirement they moved to Pendleton, staying some winters in Arizona.  Zana had been employed by Moon Drug Store in La Grande.  She then worked as Secretary of Flora Grange, and Secretary of Flora School.  She later weighed wheat trucks for Wallowa County Grain Growers and was a Contract Flagger.  She was a member of the Flora Grange for 20 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, camping, target practice, fishing, playing cards and reading.

Zana is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joe Shuman of Pendleton, daughters Dena McCrae & husband Mark of La Grande, and Donna Vogel & husband Rick of Pendleton, a sister Lila Killingbeck & husband Thad of Boardman, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Bernice Lindley, a sister Nita Rogers, and a son, Lyle Shuman.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am so glad that I got to see and visit with Zana at the Flora school reunion last summer. She was a great friend to me when I was growing up. My prayers are with you.

So sorry to learn of Zana's passing, I got a call from Aunt Voneta and she told me. I know it is hard but it does get better and the good times are the ones we remember. Hard to believe how many have passed lately. I am now one of the old timers. Hugs to all and my thoughts are with you.

I was so saddened to hear about Zana passing. I enjoyed her visiting me after my stroke. She will be missed greatly. My prayers will be with the family.
