Christine Inez Hamby 81, a longtime resident of Pendleton died peacefully Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Juniper House. Her seven children, their spouses and some grandchildren had been visiting. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton with graveside services to follow at Skyview Memorial Park, Pendleton.  You may send condolences online at  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is handling arrangements. 

Mrs. Hamby was born on November 25, 1931 in Baker City, Oregon to Christian and Inez Samuelsen. She attended school in Baker City. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Pioneers that settled in the John Day-Dayville area as a fourth generation Oregonian. In 1947 she met and married William Robert (Bob) Hamby.

The family moved to Pendleton in 1953. She was a homemaker and served on the PTA. She worked at Sherwood Elementary as an Aide and with a blind student. She also worked in Title 1 at Washington Elementary. Later she worked as the Manager at Oregon Trail Manor and in Hermiston with her husband at his car lot.  Mrs. Hamby enjoyed being with her family, kids and many friends. The Hamby household always had room for everyone and no one was a stranger. She liked to travel and be around her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the garden with her husband and grew many beautiful flowers, roses were her favorite.

Survivors include: her sons Terry Hamby (Toni) of Pilot Rock, Bill Hamby (Julie) and Glenn Hamby (Deb-Sue) of Pendleton, daughters Diana Hammon (Wendall) and Debbie Rasmussen (Tim) of Pendleton, Bonnie Kik (Bill) of Hermiston and Tana Hamby (Ed Durrett) of Oregon City, 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and her sister Hester Dexter of Forest Grove, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents, brothers Bob Grindstaff, Ted Samuelsen and sister Cora Coalwell.

Always had such an admiration for Christine and Rob, always looked forward to their visits with us.Just knowing they're not there will cause me to miss them.I love all of you and my prayers are for their family left behind.

Aunt Christine, was a very important part of my life. I love her, and will miss her--RIP my dear sweet Auntie. To her childfren, my cousins, my prayers are with you and it breaks my heart that I can't be there for her service.

To the whole Hamby family: So sorry to hear about Christine! Your family was like a second family to me. I have some of my fondest memories with the everyone in the Hamby family from the time I met Tana. I love all of you guys & my thoughts are with each & everyone of you!!!
