Kelly Charles Johlke

November 15, 1955 – November 12, 2012

Kelly Charles Johlke – 56, of Pendleton, passed away Monday at his home.

Kelly was born November 15th, 1955, in Pendleton to Floyd Henry Johlke and Dorothy Jean (Ritzman) Johlke.

After attending schools in Pendleton, he remained n the area while pursuing his musical interests.

He worked locally in a number of fields, beginning with his father and brothers in the grocery business.  He also worked at Homestead Youth Facility, Prowler Industries, Pendleton Sanitary Services and most recently with family at Elite Taxis Inc..

Kelly’s greatest passion was music.  His talents allowed him to pick up any instrument and play it.  He played with local bands where he was able to provide his skills with a lead guitar, bass, keyboard, rhythm and also sing.  He loved to write songs.

His musical tours allowed him to play in Alaska, New Mexico, Arizona and Japan.  He pursued a “One Man Band” act where he played locally for many years.

In 1987 he met Julie Saunders-Green.  From this union they had two children, Kelsey Nichole and Kelby Richard.

Kelly enjoyed taking his kids hunting, camping and fishing.  He would often let them drive his “Little Red” pick-up on the dirt roads.  They enjoyed every second with their father because of the innocence they saw in his eyes.  He was a wholesome man, full of love and compassion.  He was always willing to put on a happy face even in the worst of times.  Kelby loved going to his dads, especially because he got to play x-box with him for hours and hours.  Kelsey and her father shared the love and the gift for music.  They both turned to music for strength and structure; music brought their little family together.

In 1999 Kelly met his last love, Dena Erickson.  She had three children, they enjoyed summer outings fishing, hunting, swimming and snorkeling at the upper John Day.  They found a lost dog and named her Lucy, who soon became part of the family.  Dena and Kelly played music and sang together on stage every chance they got.

Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mike.  Survivors include his children Kelsey Johlke and and Kelby Johlke, his brother Rod and wife Patti, sister-in-law Tami Johlke, nieces and nephews: Mathew and Ashleah and Robert and Ryan, as well as his many friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering Sunday, November 18th at 1:00 PM at Rod & Patti Johlke’s residence, 2004 SW Nye Avenue in Pendleton.  Memorial contributions in memory of Kelly Johlke may be made to the Pendleton Center for the Arts Youth Music Program, 214 N Main Street, Pendleton, OR 97801.  You may send condolences online at  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements.
