Leo L. Haskett Sr., a resident of Pilot Rock, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 in a Pendleton Hospital. He was 72 years old. Memorial Services will be conducted Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 12:00 at the home of David Haskett, 428 NE 35th. Street, Pendleton, Oregon. Memorials in his memory may be directed to the Leo L. Haskett memorial fund care of the Bank Of The West, Pendleton, Oregon. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Haskett was born April 24, 1938 in Ontario, Oregon. He was the son of Tharley and Rosella Williamson Haskett. He later moved to Albany, Oregon. He served his country in the United States Navy. Soon after he meet and married the love of his life, LaWanda Sapp. They raised 6 children together until 1981 when they moved to eastern Oregon. He had worked for the Willamette Industries and the Pendleton Woolen Mills and later Hermiston Foods where retired. As a younger man, he had trapped up and down the Snake River. His passion was carving, painting and weaving pine needle baskets. He had a great love for his wife and his children. He truly was a strong man with a quiet tenderness and he will be greatly missed. He had been a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, LaWanda Haskett of Pilot Rock, his children, Leo L. Haskett Jr. of Scotts Mills, Oregon; Cyrus Haskett of Echo, Oregon; David Haskett of Pendleton; Daughters, Trevia Groesbeck of Hermiston, and Twyla Michael of Pilot Rock, Oregon; Three brothers, Tharley, Lyman and Jack, and three sisters, Rose, Joy and Mary; 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Parley Joe Haskett.
