Nona M. Philbrick - a former resident of Pendleton died on Monday, Dec.21, 2009 at the Oregon Veteran's Home in The Dalles, Oregon, where she had been a resident for the last few years. She was 85 years old. At Nona's request there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Veteran's Home, 700 Veterans Drive, The Dalles, OR, 97058. Send condolences to the family or sign the register at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. She was born to Bert and Nora Greenfield in Condon, Oregon on July 4, 1926. She was raised in the Condon and Fossil, Oregon area. She married Robert Semple and to this union two children were born. When Robert, her husband, died she married a school classmate Tom Philbrick in March of 1966 and they later moved to the Pendleton, OR area. While there she became a rural carrier for The East Oregonian newspaper. A job she held for twenty years. Nona and Tom were avid fishermen. Unity Reservoir in eastern Oregon was one of their favorite fishing sites, spending several weeks there each summer. She took along her canner and canned their catch on site. She also liked the fall when it came time to bring in the winter wood supply. She was well known for her cooking skills and liked to attend family gatherings and reunions. At one family reunion she was thrilled to be able to take a helicopter ride. She was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Semple and Tom Philbick, her parents Bert and Nora Greenfield, five sisters, two brothers and grandson Ryan Philbrick. She is survived by sisters Lucille and Bud Bird of Pendleton, OR, Shirley and Ron Ashley of Prineville, OR, and her brother Richard Greenfield of Fossil, OR, her daughter, Nellie and Ray Moore of The Dalles, OR, a son Robert D. Semple of Hollywood CA, a step-son Tom & T.J. Philbrick of Salem, OR, a step-daughter Linda and Dale Christensen of Oregon City, OR, several grandchildren, plus great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, scads of nieces and nephews plus many special friends.

Our son Kraig has been working on a Geneolgy of the Semple family and found your Mom's Obituary. We send our deepest sympathy to your family. I realize this is 2012 and she passed away some time ago, but just finding this information has been a wonderful find our family history. Again, our deepest sympathy.
