Rest In Peace Butch. You are leaving this world and entering a better world. On your travels from this side to the other, some famous people will be heading that way too, NBA Commissioner David Stern and Hall of Fame Pitcher Don Larson. That is good company for you, being an avid sports star like you were.

My memories of talking with members of the Sams family at the Frenchtown gathering last fall make me smile. It was great to catch up on our lives and activities in recent years. You are all in my thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort in this time of loss.

Butch was one of the kindest people I've been blessed to know, he was always so thoughtful and never missed an opportunity to ask how the kids were doing in sports/activities ~ most of the time while walking in or out of a gym or onto or off of a field. The crowd will miss him, this earth was a better place because of him and heaven, heaven will be a bit more feisty! Sending hugs with you to those who left before you and who have been waiting for your arrival (special hugs to Charley Franklin) Peace & blessings to your family, xo Donna Marie

When I was about 5, my family lived next door to the Sams family in Weston. Butch and I played together a lot. We both had quite an imagination and thought up some really good adventures. One time we went down the road a little and was climbing all over an old pig house when we stirred up a hornets nest. That sent us home on the run and we ended up covered with baking soda packs to stop the stings. Every time I drive by Weston, I always think of Butch. There weren't many kids my age to play with and he was a good friend.

I will miss Butch on the Wildhorse Casino & Resort gaming floor. I could count on Butch being at the same machine week after week, month after month, year after year, it was like clockwork. Then last week I saw him in a unfamiliar area and I asked him "What the heck are you doing here?!" He told me he was "spreading the wealth", and we both got a good laugh out of it. I will miss Butch, and my condolences go out to his family. RIP my friend.
