Charles D. Chuck Hall, 77 1934 – 2012 Chuck passed away on the morning of July 13, 2012 at his home in Pendleton. He was born in Durant, Oklahoma, and lived his early years in Oklahoma and Texas. In 1952 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and was deployed to the Far East and various U.S. occupation areas. While in the Corps, he was selected for and served in the Secret Service and U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard based in Washington, D.C. While working as an Embassy Guard in Ireland he met and married Ruth Young of Pendleton. After his military service, in the early 1960's, he joined the Professional Bowlers Association, and followed the tour in Florida and Southern California. Chuck was an avid sports fan his entire life, and coached Little League baseball in Pendleton for 10 years after moving here in 1966. He worked as an EMT and city fireman in Pendleton until the late 1970s. Chuck eventually worked in Saudi Arabia as a fire chief and senior safety officer for ten years. Chuck finished his career working as a safety officer on methane gas plant projects throughout the U.S. Southwest. His concern for the well being of his co-workers earned him the nickname of "Doc". Chuck returned to the Pendleton area following his retirement in 2002. Chuck, always curious, was known for his razor-sharp memory and encyclopedic knowledge of a variety of subjects. In his later years he enjoyed running numerous fantasy sports teams, sharing stories of the places he'd been and people he'd met, and when opportunity presented itself visiting area casinos. Chuck was always fiercely independent, a trait he passed on for which all his children are forever grateful. Chuck is survived by six children, David, Cindy, Jani, Jennifer, Brent and Stephanie, and ten grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, Oregon.
