Verna Dittus

July 13, 1929 – April 19, 2016

Verna (Palensky) Dittus was born July 13, 1929, to James and Leah Palensky in Fredonia, North Dakota.

Verna Dittus passed away April 19, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon. 

Verna Dittus was born at Fredonia, North Dakota, in the farm home of her grandparents, August & Christine Kusler.  Verna grew up in North Dakota.  She attended various schools there and graduated from High School in Milnor, North Dakota.  After Graduation she attended Ellendale Normal School and attained a teaching certificate.  She taught for thirteen years, teaching all eight grades in a county school. 

Verna married Clifford Dittus in Fredonia, ND, October 18, 1953.  They continued to farm on his family’s farm in North Dakota until 1981.  At this time they sold the family farm to a niece and her husband, and moved to Pilot Rock, Oregon.  They joined her parents, her sister and brother-in-law in Pilot Rock. 

Her husband Clifford passed way in 2010.  She continued to reside at home until her death.  Her parents also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lue & Raymond Slabik of Pilot Rock.  She is also survived by cousins on the Palensky side of the family as well as several nieces & nephews on the Dittus side of the family. 

Verna was a member of the Nazarene Church in Pilot Rock, Oregon.

The family suggests any memorial contributions in honor of Verna Dittus be directed to the Nazarene Church of Pilot Rock, PO Box 853, Pilot Rock, OR, 97868.
