Catherine Margaret “Kate” McAuliffe     1920 – 2013

Catherine Margaret McAuliffe passed away on October 27th, 2013 at the age of 93.

She was born on April 7th, 1920 in Condon, OR to Patrick (Con) and Katie Carty and grew up on the family ranch located in the Kahler Basin near Spray, OR. She was the middle of seven children having two brothers and four sisters.

Catherine spent her early adult life living in many places throughout Oregon including Mt. Angel, Heppner, Portland and Salem. She finally settled back in Heppner, OR in the late 1960’s. There she met and married Jerry McAuliffe and they worked together on the Krebs ranch at Cecil, OR. He was the ranch foreman and she was the ranch cook. They worked there until the late 1970’s when they decided to semi-retire in Beaverton, OR. Upon her husband’s death in 1980 she returned to the Krebs ranch where she remained as the ranch cook until the late 1980’s. She finally decided to retire and moved to Pendleton, OR to be near her sister Cecelia Robison. She remained in Pendleton until the time of her death.

Her hobbies included ceramics and oil painting landscapes. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at St. Mary’s Outreach. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry McAuliffe, father Patrick (Con) Carty Sr., mother Katie Carty, sister Patricia Carty, sister Mary Dingler, sister Cecelia Robison, sister Irene Bogue, brother Patrick Carty, and brother Charles Carty.

Catherine did not have any children. She is survived by a nephew Monty Robison of Pendleton, OR, nephew Ken Toles of Santa Maria, CA, niece Terri Miller of Redding, CA and niece Marie Case of Occidental, CA.

Special thanks go out to her friends from St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Outreach for your friendship and caring over the years. It meant a lot to Catherine and she spoke of you always.

At her request, there will be no memorial service. She will be buried at Heppner Masonic Cemetery next to her husband Jerry.
