Mary Patricia "Mary Pat" McCarton, a lifelong resident of Pendleton, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the home of her niece in Pendleton. She was 78 years old. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 5:30 P.M. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday, April 16th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Olney Cemetery, Pendleton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church, through Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, P.O. Box 489, Pendleton, Oregon 97801. Sign the online guestbook at www.burnsmortuary.com Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mary Pat McCarton was born March 4th, 1934 to Thomas and Mary Josephine McDaid McCarton. She first lived on a small farm on the Umatilla River in the Minnehaha district. At 6 the family moved to Pendleton so she could attend St. Joseph Academy where she graduated in 1953. In that same year she was chosen May Queen for the procession to the grotto. After High school she went to work for St. Anthony Hospital as a Dietary Tech in the cafeteria and worked there for over 41 years. She took many trips in her lifetime including a motor trip across Canada and back through the US, Ireland and the 26 counties, Alaska, 2 trips to the East Coast and attended the World's fair in 1962 where she fished off the first floor of the Edgewater Inn due to the Columbus Day storm. She was a very devout Catholic, praying the holy rosary faithfully daily for over 60 years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, walking, listening to her police scanner and letting everyone know the news, being with family but most of all loved spoiling her great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother: Edward McCarton, Seattle; Sister: Rosie Phelan, Pendleton; Nieces and Nephews : Mary Beth and David Cohoe, Seattle; Peggy and Brian Doherty, Lexington; Nora and Shawn Rivera, Pendleton; Tom and Teri Phelan, Pendleton; great nieces and nephews: Theresa Cohoe, Liam Cohoe, Ian Rivera, Joe Doherty, Danny Doherty, Mary Rivera, Easton Phelan, Megan Doherty, Grady Phelan, Kelly Doherty, Lizzy Doherty and Morley Phelan; Several first cousins in the US and Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Patrick Phelan, Nephew: Sean Phelan, Nieces: Erin, Theresa and Maureen Phelan; Great Niece: Maureen Rivera

MaryPat, I remember you from some of my earliest memories in life! My Mom and Dad always looked forward to Pendleton because they loved to visit with you and Rosie, Aunt Mary and Aunt Margaret too! You will always remain close in our hearts, minds and memories until we see you again! Much love to you and yours, from me and mine.

Mary Pat will be missed. Aunt Sue and I used to see Mary Pat at the hospital all the time. Bless be!

We just heard of Mary Pat's passing. She will be missed by so many people, but especially the family she loved so dearly. We wish we could be there for her funeral, but please know that we will have all of you in our prayers. She's certainly in heaven.

Just heard. Mary Pat's mom babysat me when I lived about 3 houses away and my mom (Mary and Bernard) needed occasional babysitting. Mary Pat was always smiling and would light up the room with her personality. Fond memories of her. And her sister.
