Janice Ellen Sheoships, Tamaaktakinmy of Nixyaawii, Oregon, died February 23, 2012, near Pendleton. She was 52 years old. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Sunday, February 26, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. in the Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, February 27, 2012, at St. Andrew's Mission near Pendleton. Burial will follow the services in the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mabel Thompson Sheoships. She attended school at St. Andrews Mission, St. Michaels, and Chemawa Indian School in Salem. When she was younger, she had enjoyed playing basketball at Chemawa School. She also enjoyed sewing, swimming in the river, and taking drives up the river and into the mountains. She enjoyed cooking wild game such as salmon and deer as well as spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by three sons; Thomas Soaring Eagle, Alfred Wilson and Darren Wilson, all of Pendleton; four grandsons; Sean Soaring Eagle, Teal Soaring Eagle, Lyle Soaring Eagle, and Cole Foy Soaring Eagle, all of Pendleton, three granddaughters; Elsie Wilson, Sophie Wilson and Grace Wilson , all of Pendleton, and her siblings; Susan Sheoships, Maria Sheoships, Nicola Sheoships, Cemmy Sigo, Pamela Mildenberger, Mollie Sheoships, Alcuin Sheoships and Mathew Sheoships, all of the Thorn Hollow area. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Sheoships, and her grandparents Rosa and Joe Thompson.

Remember the Days going to School with You and Brothers and Sisters at St. Andrews. Those were the good old days, simpler. Rest in Peace Janice.

Such a gentle and kind spirit like a flower blooming in the pavement she will be missed in the Tribe, community,the many homes she visited and even more in our hearts.

Janice and I spent much time together when we were younger. Millions of great memories. She was an awesome friend. I feel very blessed that I was able to tell her how much she has meant to me as a friend. I loved her so much and will forever miss her. Debbie

My sincere condolences to all of you my family, especially auntie Mabel. I am sorry I cannot make today but my thoughts are with you and in my prayers. I will always remember her as we grew up and all the laughs and hurtness we have been through. She is no longer suffering, dont let anything hold her back...to the children and grandchildren, we love you and are here for you anyways we can. I pray the creator will be with all of the families touched by her and take care of their needs.

We wish to leave our memories of one of best friends. Janice and I spent so many summers together when I would visit the rez. We laughed and cried over so many lost friends. I will miss her with all my heart. We were born on the same day... How much closer could we be. Love ya j. sky/sallie

Janice was always full of smiles and laughter, she didn't have mean bone in her body ... her heart always remained true to where she came from. She believed in our native culture and kept that with her and she will be remembered very fondly in all of our hearts. We were all truly blessed to have had her in our lives...
