Verda was born November 17, 1930, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She was the daughter of Don & Ethel French McLeod. She was raised and educated in Dover and Sandpoint, Idaho. She later, went to Burns, Oregon to visit family, which is where she met Charles Wayne Leavitt. Charles and Verda married in June of 1958. In 1959 and 1960 they started their family with two sons. By 1962 their small camp trailer had made its way to the Pendleton RV Park next to Safeway, and from then on, Pendleton was home. In 1965 Charles & Verda purchased their first home in Pendleton. Days after moving in, the family was completed with the birth of her last child- a girl. 1965 was a big year for Verda and she was very happy as a wife and mother in her new home without wheels. That same year she began working as a child care provider in her home. Verda was a very lovable, so much so that many of the kids she provided day care for kept in touch with her to this day. She was deeply passionate in her belief in God. Verda loved the individuals and families that made up her "church family". She was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and had served as the church treasurer until it closed its doors, at which time Verda found a new church family in the Grace Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Dorcas Circle and was a member of the Pioneer Ladies Club as well. Verda is survived by her son David Leavitt of Pendleton, daughter Nancy Norris also of Pendleton, a grandson Justin Norris of Pendleton and a granddaughter Katelin Norris of Eugene, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Doyle Leavitt, a brother Roy Leon McLeod and her husband, Wayne Leavitt.

A friend of many years and am thankful that God alowed us to tend to his needs in Church and the Dorcas Circle. She knew her Bible and lived by it! So glad I shared my life with her. Sincerely, Verna

Mrs. Leavitt cared for Andrew, Julia, and I for almost a decade. She is present in my earliest memories. She will be dearly missed.
