Barbara Michael Short, a resident of Pendleton, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 in the Juniper House in Pendleton. She was 86 years old. Graveside Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 4, 2009 at 11:00 A. M. in the Olney Cemetery, Pendleton. Following the graveside services friends are invited to join with the family in the Elks Lodge of Pendleton for a time if sharing and refreshment. Memorials in her memory may be directed to a charity of ones choice. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Short was born March 9, 1923 in Pilot Rock, Oregon. She was the daughter of Charlie and Ethel Shafer Michael. She grew up on the family ranch. She graduated from Pilot Rock High School and then attended classes at Eastern Oregon College. For many years she worked for the Production Credit Association here in Pendleton. Barbara married Spencer Short and they owned and operated the Gallery and Wink Room in Sisters, Oregon and a restaurant in Woodburn. She loved to travel and visit family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Charles and Eldon Michael and her husband Spencer Short. She is survived by her brothers, Wallace Michael and Robert Michael of Pendleton and James Michael of Pilot Rock. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

I remember Mrs. and Mr. Short very well from when I worked at Amber Valley. When my son was born in 1992, I liked Mr. Short's name so much I named my boy Spencer. Mrs. Short was a lovely person and I was sad to hear of her passing.

I worked at Juniper house. DuringSpring of 2008. She was always very nice to me. I"m very sorry for your loss.

I met Barbara when I was a CNA caring for Mr. Short at Amber Valley Care Center. She was very devoted to her husband and made sure he got the best possible care. My hearfelt sympathy is extended to your family.
