Walter Charles "Butch" Broncheau "Tuwishtukwaytat" - a longtime resident of Pendleton, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington. He was 67 years old. Memorial Services will be held at 8:00 AM, Thursday July 1, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton, Oregon. Graveside Inurnment Services will follow at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton, with a dinner at the Agency Longhouse in Mission, Oregon, to follow. A luncheon and memorial gathering will also be held at 1:00 PM, Friday July 2, at the Eagles Lodge in Pendleton. Walter Charles "Butch" Broncheau was born on January 13, 1943 in Madras, Oregon to Daniel Broncheau and Julia Johnley-Broncheau. Walter had eight siblings. Walter married Lois McFarland in 1961. Walter and Delcie Parr were married July 8, 1989 at Tollgate and renewed their vows every five years. Walter began his work career driving harvest truck for Purchase Ranch. He worked ten years at the Umatilla Trailer Factory, for 30 Years as a foreman at U.S.G. Wood Fiber of Pilot Rock, and surveillance, for six years at Wildhorse Casino. In his younger years Walter was the leader in team dancing and won many awards competing at tribal Pow Wows. He embraced his native traditions and was loved and respected by all for taking the time to share and teach the younger generations. Walter enjoyed making regalia and jewelry. He was well known throughout the Northwest for the 100's of beautiful shawls that he made. Walter enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and was an active member of the Eagles club. Walter is survived by his wife Delcie of Pendleton, his sister Myrna Strong also of Pendleton, five daughters and three sons; Julia Hopkins of Woodburn, Oregon, V. Susie Pickernell of Oakville, Washington, Melinda Broncheau of Pendleton, Oregon, Tonia Smith of Pendleton, Oregon, and Jennifer Holte of Shelton, Washington, Malvin Jamison, Walter Broncheau Jr., and Jamie Jay all of Pendleton. Walter is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by seven siblings and one daughter Arlene Broncheau.
