It is with deep heartache that we inform you of the passing of Zoe Ann Marshall, who died in a tragic car accident on February 15th, 2023. She was only 52 years old.
Zoe was born in San Gabriel, California to her father, Roy, and mother, Darlene. She was one of six children and resided most of her life in Washington state. Zoe called many different places home throughout her life, and she'd probably tell you that due to the special bond they shared, she felt most at home in the presence of her mother.
While growing up in a Hare Krishna Temple, Zoe was named "Jiva", meaning, “Life Force”, due to her fiery, energetic, go-getter nature. When Zoe wanted something, she didn’t let anyone stand in her way. One particular example of her tenacity stands out warmly in the minds of her family: As a young child, Zoe loved sweets, and one day she discovered the perfect opportunity to make her way into the honey storage on their family farm. She walked right in and sat herself under the valve to the honey extractor, wriggled it open, and helped herself to the delicious flow of nectar. She was eventually found, sitting inches deep in a puddle of honey, as joyous as could be.
Even from a young age, Zoe had a pure love of animals, especially horses and dogs. She often referred to the years she spent training and taking care of horses as some of her best. It was rare to find Zoe without one of her canine companions, and it is only fitting that her beloved dogs were with her all the way until the very end of her life.
Rocks and Crystals were another lifelong love of Zoe's. She grew and maintained an astounding collection of both, and while she was drawn to their inherent outer beauty, she also felt connected to the deeper nuances and energy that flowed through them. She adorned many of her loved ones' homes and yards with her precious gifts of rocks and crystals.
Zoe was very much a free spirit who had a way of wandering from one life adventure to the next. Impulsive by nature, if Zoe was involved, whomever she was with would be taken along for some sort of adventure. Zoe was known by so many for her internal spunk, charisma, and lack of concern for other people's opinions of her. Her exceptional artistic abilities, including her intricate needlework creations, were loved and enjoyed by many. She was a true warrior and leader with the potential to fly to the moon, though if you asked her, she'd tell you she made it to outerspace. Zoe was unapologetically herself and not afraid to do things others might shy away from, like dance in the middle of a crowd of people or speak what was truly on her mind. She was deeply spiritual, and a firm believer that everything in life happened for a reason, often possessing deeper meaning.
If you asked those who love her what they will remember most about Zoe, they'd tell you that her loving and generous soul could never be forgotten. She possessed a genuine heart and was always willing to give to others, even when she herself had nothing. She had a heart of gold and a contagious laugh that will be long echoed in the memories of her loved ones.
Zoe had one daughter, Janelle, that she considered to be the single most important person in her life. Zoe often reflected on the gratitude she felt for being given such an amazing soul for a daughter. She wanted nothing more than for Janelle to experience the depths of her love, as well as to support her daughter in fulfilling her own life destiny. It brought Zoe immense joy to see Janelle become a parent to her own two children, as well as to be a grandma to Eliza and Jonah, who each possess a dose of their grandmother's vibrant spirit. Zoe will be dearly missed by her daughter, forever remaining in her heart, and her spirit will continue to be fostered by Janelle through her children.
Zoe is survived by and so deeply missed by her only child, Janelle Hansen, and mother, Darlene Kish. Zoe is forever cherished and remembered by her two grandchildren, Eliza Hansen and Jonah Hansen. Zoe is forever loved and deeply missed by her siblings: Kimberly Chamberland, Phoebe Prohaska, Sridama Kish, Gaura Kish, Sudevi Kish, and Angela Marshall. Her memory will live on through her large family.
Zoe was predeceased by her father, Roy Lee Marshall.
A celebration of life service will take place on April 3rd, 2023, Zoe's birthday. The details of the service are still being finalized. In the upcoming weeks, please return to this post for updated information or email Hayes.janelle3@gmail.com.
