Rickey Martinez was born April 2nd, 1965 in Montrose, CO to Pete and Mary Martinez. At an early age they would move to Pilot Rock, OR where Rickey grew up and eventually graduated from in 1983. While in high school, Rick had a passion for weight lifting, running, and of course football. When he’d talk about playing in high school he would say, “I couldn't see so I could never find the ball, but man did I love hitting people as hard as I could. I wish I had glasses I could take on the field, because they made me a lineman at 5’6” and 175lbs.
Shortly after high school Rickey started working for Masonite in Pilot Rock before accepting a job at the flour mill in Pendleton in 1996 where he continued to work for 23 years. He loved his job and anyone that worked with him would say he’s the hardest worker they’ve ever seen. He was proud of his work and what he was able to accomplish, starting from an entry level job and working his way up the company as high as he could go, and he even went to college at the age of 50 to better his career.
Outside of work life, Rickey was known to live in the moment. Whether he was golfing, fishing, or socializing with friends and family, he was never worried about tomorrow as long as everyone around him was happy today. He was the kind of guy that would give you the last dollar to his name if you were struggling and wouldn’t hesitate to lend a hand if you needed
help, he was there.
Rickey passed away July 24th 2024. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Mary and Pete Martinez, survived by his children Kyle and Kelsey Martinez and his two grandchildren Axton Martinez and Rory Henderson. A celebration of life will be held at Elvis’s Bar and Grill Saturday August 10th from 1-4pm. All those who knew Rickey are welcome to join.
Rest easy, 44 forever.
