Randolph Pierce Gilbertson

Randy Gilbertson died on January 29, 2023 in Pendleton, Oregon from complications due to cancer.  He was 78 years old.

Randy is survived by his wife Kathy, children Rich Gilbertson in Gresham, Oregon, Amanda Beckley in Hermiston, Oregon and Kevin Gilbertson in Boardman, Oregon.  He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and two adopted children by a previous marriage.  In addition, siblings Gayle Radcliff in Stevensville, Montana, and Curtis Gilbertson in Vancouver, Washington.

Randy was born on October 17th, 1944 in Portland, Oregon.  He graduated from David Douglas high school in Portland, Oregon in 1962.  He went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force and served four years active duty in addition to four years in the Oregon Air National Guard.

Randy married Kathy from Pendleton in 2002.   He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad, working there for 32 years.  Included in his work at the Hinkle railroad yard, he was a conductor brakeman running from Hinkle to LaGrande and back with freight trains.  He was also an avid coin collector, as well as a collector of baseball caps.   Randy was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and stimulating conversation on most any subject.  He enjoyed many activities at the Eagles Lodge where he was a member for many years.  His passion was watching sports of all kinds, with his favorite being NASCAR racing.

A Celebration of Life will be held the Eagles Lodge in Pendleton Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
