Ralph "Leroy" Terney

August 21, 1944 ~ August 31, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Ralph "Leroy" Terney, 79 died on Thursday, August 31, 2023.  Ralph LeRoy Terney was born at Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston, Oregon on August 21, 1944 to Ralph and Elva Terney.  He was preceded in death by sister, Joanne (Judy) Terney and is survived by his brother Raphael (Pam).

LeRoy graduated from Pendleton High School, class of 1962, was drafted into the army and was a veteran of Viet Nam.

He married Cathy Gilham on September 7, 1967.  He has two children: Rachel (John) and Kevin.  He was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Francie) and has two step-children, Rene and Brian. He has five grand-children: Rowan (Rachel and John), Bishop and Aiden (Kevin), Ella and Allie (Rene).

LeRoy’s two passions in life were people and cars; in his younger days he was affectionately known by his friends as Hot Rod. In the late 60’s while he worked at Simpson Auto Parts, he drag-raced a 1967 Dodge R/T at local drag strips in Madras and the Tri-Cities.  He was proud of his wins and his trophy.  He also worked for a short time at Lexington Grain Growers before returning to the Terney Ranch where he worked for the rest of his life.

LeRoy enjoyed spending his time with close friends and neighbors, caring deeply for those he spent time with.  His quick wit and sense of humor were part of his charm.   LeRoy was mechanically inclined and took the time to pass along his passions in life.  He loved sharing what he was good at and took pride in those accomplishments.

Burns Mortuary is in charge of final arrangements.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 2pm at Skyview Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be held at The Saddle on Saturday, September 9, 4-7pm in the banquet room.
