Laine Anthony Iverson, age 66, passed away July 19, 2025 at Kadlec Hospital in Richland, Washington surrounded by family. He was born September 23, 1958 in Oakes, North Dakota to Arvid Iverson and Janet Schneider. He was the oldest of 10 siblings. He was followed by Duane, David, Deanna, Shannon, Allen Terry, James, Brenda and Mike.
At a young age he moved to the Hermiston, Oregon area where he attended school and graduated from Hermiston High School. After high school, he attended Blue Mountain Community College. In 1978 he married Kathy Hartley and became a dad to Justin and later he and Kathy had a son, Matthew.
In 2004 he married Cindy Hart and gained another son, Travis, and eventually daughter-in law Darcy and the loves of his life, grandson Jaxon and granddaughter Avery, that he adored. He started his career in corrections in 1989 as an officer and rose through the ranks, retiring in 2017 as a Correctional Captain. He was a very respected part of the correctional team. I don’t think he ever truly realized how much he impacted the lives of others, how much he was respected, or how much he was valued. He was quiet and unassuming. He had a huge heart and he was always ready to help friends in need but not ready to accept help himself – if you know, you know.
He loved sports, playing football, basketball and baseball during his school years. As an adult he continued to be a sports addict and supported his Minnesota Vikings through thick and thin. He loved fishing and was always ready for a fishing trip, especially one where the salmon were biting. His grandkids were the center of his world. He loved nothing better than taking a trip with them and showing them amazing sights and having wonderful adventures and making the best memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid Iverson and Janet Hein, his son Matthew, his brother Dave, and his sister Dee. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, sons Travis Hart (Darcy), Justin Pace (Missy), grandchildren Jaxon Hart and Avery Hart, brothers Duane Iverson (Margie) of Oakes, North Dakota, Shannon Iverson, Allen Iverson (Charlie), Terry Iverson (Kristen), James Iverson, all of Hermiston, Oregon, Mike Hein of Oakes, North Dakota and sister Brenda Finley (Aaron), step-mother Teresa Iverson, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two special friends, Dave Pedro and Tony Kornegay, who he considered as brothers. Also surviving are his two fur-babies, Lily and Finn, who are missing their “Dad”.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1pm at the Vert Auditorium, 480 SW Dorion Ave, Pendleton, Oregon, with a reception to follow. Bring your memories and stories to share. I know there will be tears but also laughter as he is remembered for the person he was.
