Jeanette Eileeen (Chapman) Good was born April 16, 1944, to Robert and Janet Chapman, in Lewiston, ID. June 8, 2023, she died in St. Anthony Hospital, Pendleton, OR. She was 79 years old.
Jeanette grew up in Portland, OR with her parents, brother John, and sisters Arlene and Patricia. She flew airplanes and rode horses. She attended Oregon State University, where she met her lifetime love and partner, David Good. They married and soon after settled near Pilot Rock, where they raised their son, Nathan.
Jeanette was employed as reserve police officer with the Pilot Rock Police Department. She became one of the first Board-certified female police officers in the State of Oregon, and obtained her Associates Degree in Criminal Justice through Blue Mountain Community College. She would later serve the City as full-time patrol officer, and sergeant. She was recognized as Citizen of the Year in 1999.
Jeanette also joined the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office as reserve criminal deputy. Her time as deputy included positions as marine deputy and domestic violence investigator. She was a member of the ‘Mounted Posse’ parade team. She joined the Umatilla County Search and Rescue team and obtained State certification as a man-tracker. She became search coordinator, and later manager. At the date of her death, she had served the unit for over 35 years.
Jeanette’s hobbies included riding and working cattle, flying, playing and singing music, and sewing.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by husband David, son Nathan, and siblings John, Arlene, and Pat.
A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. on June 21st at the Vert Auditorium, 480 SW Dorion Ave, Pendleton, with reception to follow. Family asks that donations be made to Umatilla County Search and Rescue.
