Glenda Marie Christian
December 18, 1938 to May 22, 2024
Glenda (Leverenz) Christian, 85, passed away on May 22, 2024, at Saint Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. Glenda was born on December 18, 1938, to Thelma and Glenn “Red” Leverenz of Ukiah, OR. She attended Pilot Rock High School and went on to attend college in Pendleton.
Melvin and Glenda Christian were married on January 7, 1961, in Hood River, OR. For their entire 63 years of married life, they resided in the Ukiah area on her mother and father’s ranch. Glenda was a very strong-willed woman who did whatever was needed to put food on the table and make a home for their three boys. Glenda bought mushrooms, ranched, and drove school bus. She is remembered as being extremely frugal in all aspects of life and a great cook. She could make an awesome meal from seemingly nothing and transform leftovers into completely new creations. She was such a good cook that for years there was a sign that hung above their kitchen sink that read, “A plump wife and a big barn, never did any man harm.” Even when their house of 61 years burnt to the ground (June 15, 2022), she remained ever positive that they would rebuild.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin Christian; son, Rick Christian; daughter-in-law Wrenn Brown; granddaughter, Elise Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Red Leverenz; sister, Wilma Lee McCullough; and two sons, Jerry Lee and Wayne Edward Christian.
Per Glenda’s wishes, instead of a service, she would love for you to take some time in nature and spend time with animals. A celebration of life will be planned later. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her name to Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS).
