Christopher Hays Obituary

Christopher Dale Hays, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away at his home March 19, 2025. Chris was born in Sacramento, California, and grew up in the small town of Scio, Oregon, where he was raised by his parents, Dwayne and Hazel Hays, alongside his siblings Mike, Rosemarie, and Karen.

In 1986, Chris made his home in Pilot Rock, Oregon, where he built a life rooted in hard work, simplicity, and the outdoors. A logger by trade in his younger years, Chris had a deep love for nature. Whether he was hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, or tending to his flower garden, he was most at peace under the open sky.

Chris was also known for his generous spirit and was always willing to help a neighbor, especially with yard work or outdoor projects. He had a free soul and a kind heart, living life on his own terms and never missing a chance to lend a hand. He loved the simple pleasures of life and made connections with others with his kindness, humor and unique way of seeing the world.

He loved a good western, especially the old classics and appreciated the quiet strength and grit of the cowboys he admired on screen. That same sense of independence and adventure lived in him. One of his favorite quotes was by John Wayne: “When the road looks rough ahead, remember the ‘Man upstairs’ and the word HOPE. Hang onto both and ‘tough it out’.” This sentiment resonated deeply with Chris.

Above all, Chris was a proud father to his three children: Frank, Misty and Tyson. His legacy will be one of strength, resilience, and deep connection to the natural world.

Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
