Benjamin Edward Tate passed away on March 7, 2025, in Richland, Washington, at the age of 81. He was born on December 20, 1943, in Camas, Washington, to Benjamin F. Tate and Mary F. Tate (Griffith).
Benjamin dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving others as a case worker in child welfare. He held a bachelor’s degree and was deeply committed to his work and the well-being of children and families throughout his career.
He married Midge Higgenson in the late-1960’s and later divorced. In May of 1972, he married Bonnie B. Tucker; they also later divorced. In the mid-1980s, he found companionship with Debra L. Kellogg, with whom he shared many years until her passing.
An avid outdoorsman, Benjamin found great joy in hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes and motorcycles. His love for nature was matched by the time he cherished with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories through shared adventures and quiet moments alike. For several years he entered the Grande Ronde River races, taking 1st place on several occasions in his inflatable kayak. He enjoyed a short session of riding bareback horses at the Umatilla Sage Riders and several local rodeos throughout Eastern Oregon. He was a proud Round-Up volunteer for over 25 years on the world-famous fence crew. He enjoyed mini hikes that often led to great mountain adventures with his friends and family.
He is survived by his children: Brandon (Linsey) Kellogg, Niki (Monte) Ludington, Rodney Tate, Randall Tate, and Paula Prince and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his longtime companion, Debra L. Kellogg; and his son, Byron Tate.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Electric Sundown, located at 14 SE 3rd St., Pendleton, Oregon 97801. Mario's Basque Bar-B-Q will provide the meal; guests are welcome to bring a side or dessert if they wish.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and loved him.
