Barbara Jean Gottschalk

Barbara Gottschalk, 83 of Echo died at a Pendleton Care Facility on Saturday, February 3, 2024.  She was born on July 9, 1940 in Pendleton, Oregon.  A Graveside service will be held on Saturday,  February 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Echo Cemetery. 

Barbara was born in 1940 to Charlotte Andrews and Fred Andrews Jr who were farmers and ranchers.  She attended Echo, Oregon grade school and high school graduating in 1958.  She attended Stanford University and graduated in 1962 having studied micro biology.  Barbara was then employed at the Stanford Laboratory as a technician.  She returned to the family farm and along with her brother she managed it.  Later she managed the farm by herself. 

Barbara was active as an instructor with the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics program and she taught that for several years.  She was hired by the Four Seasons Hotels as a sales representative in Vancouver, British Columbia.  She was an employee for the Four Seasons Hotels for five years, when her aged parents asked her to again return to the family farm and ranch.  Barbara was occupied in the capacity of managing the farm and ranch for many years.  She became very interested in and fond of raising cattle. 

In early 2006 Barbara experienced a diabetic induced accident that damaged her spinal column and left her a paraplegic.  After much surgery, she recovered partially.  In 2008 she met her future husband, Gary Gottschalk, and was happily married in 2010 for thirteen plus years.
