Betty Lou Dirkes, 90, of Pendleton died at a local hospital Tuesday August 14, 2018. She was born June 1, 1928.

Betty Lou Dirkes, of Pendleton, Oregon was born on June 1, 1928 to Harley and Caroline (miller) Turner in Columbus, Ohio. She passed away peacefully on August 14, 2018 at the age of 90. Betty lived with her mother and father and one sister Marilee Lefevre (of San Diego) in Columbus, Ohio most of her childhood. Later to move to San Diego as a young adult. Where she met the love of her life, Ronald Albert Dirkes SR. they married August 13, 1961 (57 Years) and had 4 boys. Randolph Dirkes (Sandy) of Wyoming, Theodore Dirkes (Leslie) of Alaska, Ronald Dirkes JR (Jennifer), of Pendleton, Donald Dirkes (Anne) of Pilot Rock. Betty received her nursing certificate (LVN) in 70’s and cared for the young and elderly at the local hospital of Sonora, California. Betty and the family moved to Oregon in the late 80’s where they currently reside. Betty belonged to the following organizations while living in Pendleton Oregon, Dirtdabblers, Emblem Club, The Eagles. She also donated her time as a volunteer at the Bargin Counter for many years. One of Betty’s favorite pass times was getting together with the Bunko ladies for a good game of Bunko. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her son Randy of Wyoming. Betty is survived by her husband Ronald Dirkes SR, and her sons Ron JR, Ted, and Don Dirkes and 21 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday August 20, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Eagles 428 S. Main, Pendleton, Oregon. Burn Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements. I got to know Betty thru my mother Pat Smootz and took a few trips with them. I always liked Betty very much and I’m so sorry to hear of her passing, such a great lady. My condolences, Shari Remillard
