C. Michael “Mike” McLaughlin 83, formally of Pendleton, Or died Thursday, May 22, 2018 in Meza, Az.
Mike was born January 28, 1935 to Cornelius and Mary (Doherty) McLaughlin in Heppner Oregon.
Mike went to country school, Heppner Grade School, Lexington Junior High and St. Joseph Academy in Pendleton, Or where he graduated from high school in 1953.
He started his career with Pacific Northwest Bell right after high school as a lineman for the company and progressed to supervisor of the local district.
He joined the Army in 1957, served two years, was honorably discharged and went back to work for Pacific NW Bell.
Mike married Mary Lou Alexander in 1959.
After his retirement he continued to lead an active life by taking a leadership role with the St. Mary’s Outreach Food Bank.
He enjoyed hunting with his brothers and son every year on the family ranch. Mike was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Pendleton Elks Lodge.
He was a soft spoken man of few words but with a gentle and engaging sense of humor. He was honest and loyal and hard working.
He is survived by his daughter Jacque Kurz and son David McLaughlin; beloved grandchildren Sunny Vogt, Nic Edinger, Jessica Ponce-McLaughlin and Jacque McLaughlin; and treasured great-grandchildren Collin, Ryley, Braedy, Jordan and Morgan; and two brothers, Bob and Terry.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Lou, parents, brothers Dan, Jack, Jim, Hugh, Joe and Herb and sisters Kathryn, Nonie, Virginia and Sally.
A Funeral Service will be held at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton on Friday, June 1st, 2018 at 10 am followed by a graveside service at Olney Cemetery.
