A resident and member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Esther Lynn Huesties, passed away the night of April 15, 2018. Her Indian name was Himtuliink. She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Mylie Huesties and nephews Brett and Warren Huesties. She leaves behind one daughter, Althea Loretta Marie Hicks (Huesties).

Esther was the daughter of Rex and Alvina Huesties. Her siblings are Brian Huesties, Raymond and Feather Huesties, and Jeremy and Althea Wolf. Her nieces and nephews include; Clarise and Garrett Huesties, Richard and Oscar Huesties, and Aiden, Manaia and Stella Wolf.  On her mother’s side, she came from the Burke, Pond, Patrick, and Jones families, and the Ross and Combs families on her father’s side. Esther considered Velma Loretta (Burke) Dunfee her sister also –the three were seldom seen without each.

She worked at Yellowhawk Tribal Health Clinic for over ten years. She loved her patients and knowing she was helping people. Esther loved to laugh and smile. Along with serving on different committees and commissions, she was also a cook at the Longhouse.

Esther’s favorite character was Goofy, and her equally infectious sense of humor gained her a large circle of friends. She was a stellar softball player and enjoyed watching her family play sports. She was a Happy Canyon Princess in 1993, and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1994.

There will be a dressing and viewing on April 17, 2018 at Burns Mortuary, starting at 2:00 pm. A non-denomination service will be open at 6:00 pm at the CTUIR Longhouse, with a Washat Service following at 7:00 pm. On April 18, 2018, after a final service at 7:00 am, she will depart from the Longhouse and be buried at Pond Cemetery. A meal will follow after the burial at the Longhouse. Her Pallbearers are Matt Farrow Jr., Burke Farrow, Marc Heckathorn, Lance Winn, Levi Wilson, Troy Gentis, Garrett Huesties and Aiden Wolf.
