Joe was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Wallowa, Oregon, to Wilbur and Agnes (Suiste) Jones. He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1948, then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953.

He married Mary F. (Faro) Hutchins in 1977. Mary’s family included Bonnie Bindus, Donna Foster, Robert (Bob) Hutchins, Debra (Debbie) Khaljani, Kenneth (Ken) and wife Nita Hutchins, and Linda and husband Harry Brochard, 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Joe enjoyed telling stories about his 34 years in the logging and lumber industry, beginning with Harris Logging Group and retiring from Louisiana-Pacific in Pilot Rock, Oregon, in 1993 as plant maintenance supervisor. During his retirement, Joe kept a detailed journal of his daily activities, chronicling his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, huckleberry picking, writing poetry and picking and drying grapes for his yearly stash of raisins.

He is survived by his older brother, Wilbur (Bill) and wife Nettie Jones, and his younger brother, Roy Jones.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held Wednesday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Burns Mortuary, Pendleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m., with graveside services at Olney Cemetery.

I worked with Joe for over twenty years at the Pilot Rock sawmill. I knew him when I was young kid in the late fifties; would always stop at his hunting camp at Albee and visit with him. I always like Joe. My wife and I would like to express our sincere sympathy to his family, loved ones.
