Brent Laskey Horn was born in Pendleton, OR, on November 17, 1933, to Hilmer and Zylph Horn.  He passed away quietly at Suttle Care Retirement home in Pendleton May 24th, 2017.  He was 83.  His brother Darrell Horn was at his bedside when he passed.

Brent was a graduate of Pilot Rock High School where he excelled in athletics.  He was a running back on the Rockets two time State Champion six man football team where he gained the nick name ‘crazy legs’ Horn.  He graduated from Oregon State College in animal husbandry and then was manager of Beef City cattle feed lot in Hermiston for several years before he started his own feed lot maxing out at over 8,000 cattle on feed.  He also owned a registered Hereford cattle ranch on Butter Creek where he raised some of the top Hereford bulls one of which was reserved Grand Champion at the prestigious Denver Exhibition.  Brent was voted the top Hereford breeder in the Northwest during this period of his life.  He was a director of the Blue Mountain College in Pendleton and was on the Board of Directors of Inland Empire Bank which is now Banner Bank during his prime.

After a fall from the bed of a hay truck in 1995 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease which started a long deterioration of his health during the years prior to his death. 

Brent is survived by his brother, Darrell from Santa Rosa, CA, his three children, Bradford Horn, Brenda Glover and their mother Lola from Hermiston, Brandon Horn and his mother Eileen from Pendleton and six grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.  Brent was preceded in death by his parents from Pilot Rock and a sister, Patti Hampton of Bothel, WA.  His ashes will be spread in the foot hills of the Blue Mountains near his family’s ranch in Pilot Rock where he grew up.

I'm sending sympathy to the family. I remember Brent from growing up with him at Pilot Rock as we were cousins. I followed him through his high school athletics and his 4-H events. He excelled in both.

So sorry that Brent suffered his last 20 yrs. I remember him from Pilot Rock when I was in first grade. He was a friend of my brother Joe way back then. He was a caring and accomplished fellow! My condolences to the family.

As I understand it I am his name sake. I was born in 1962 in Pendleton Or too Cecil and Carol Horn and was the fastest kid In Walla Walla, we might have had more in common. I wish I had meet him.
