Ruth Leoncia Gehres

April 10, 1926 - February 18, 2017

Surrounded by her loving family, mom peacefully passed away and went to be with her husband Tom in heaven.  The only child of Bernadette Delia Herold and Lawrence Garibaldi, Ruth was born and raised in San Francisco, California.  She attended Presentation High School, worked for her Uncle Glenn House at the Rexall Drug, and met her future husband Thomas Gehres on a double date, they later married on November 17, 1947.

Ruth was a devoted wife and mother.  While raising five children she was instrumental in establishing the family business, Mariner Graphics.  The highlights of her life were social activities with friends; sailing the “Karenita” on San Francisco Bay with Ted & Karen, church functions, family gatherings, wine tasting, hot-tubbing, and of course her dogs.   She had a sharp wit, loved to dance, play the guitar and travel; Hawaii, Mexico, France, Italy, and, England.  One of her favorite things was driving her 1984 GT 350 Mustang convertible with her dogs Elsa and Dana in the back seat. Her grandchildren have many fun memories of riding with their Tutu in her Mustang.  She loved her life and home on the Russian River in Healdsburg, California.  In 2012 she moved to La Grande, Oregon to be closer to her daughters.

She is survived by her five children, Laurie, Kris, Greg, Delia, Andrew, and their spouses; her nine grandchildren, Michelle, Jenny, Jesse, Katy(D), Forrest, Austen(D), Melanie, Ryan, Evan; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

While her family will miss her, they are comforted in the belief that she is walking hand-in-hand in heaven, with her beloved husband, Tom.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Ruth's passing as reported in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Ruth was a close friend for many years; we shared the same birth month and always made a point to celebrate " our" birthday every year with a special outing which always included lunch. On occasions too numerous to count we also attended flamenco and classical guitar concerts presented at various venues around the county. Ruth was one of the nicest people I have ever known, she cared deeply about her family and friends and her beloved dogs. She was always there in time of need and I still miss her very much.

Rosemarie Klein just called today because Stan Coral sent her your mom's obituary. We had no idea. I had sent Ruthe a birthday card in April and no one let us know. Ruthee was my mom's best friend since they were in first grade, and she was there with me when my mom passed. I love your mom. She was amazing and so kind and funny. I remember pictures of our moms in dance school. My grandmother, Helen Eagan, loved Ruthee soooo much, too. Your dad cracked me up in childhood. Tom and my dad always had good times together. I know now that heaven is a wonderful place--with Tom and Ruthee, Claire and Carl, Forrest ... and others. I am sooo sorry for YOUR loss. Take care, Geri (Gustafson) Rohlff
