Charles Lester “Chuck” Bunker

Charles Lester “Chuck” Bunker, 93, a resident of Pendleton died Saturday, November 5, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Pendleton, Oregon.  Sign the online condolence book at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements. 

He was born June 20, 1923, in Hays, Kansas, to Charley and Gertrude (Brown) Bunker. He was raised in Hays, Kansas; Benton City, Washington; and Nampa, Idaho, where he graduated from high school in 1941.  He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He served his country in WWII and was honorably discharged from the Air Corps in November of 1945.  He then learned the floor covering trade in Caldwell and Boise, Idaho, and moved to Pendleton, Oregon, in 1950.  He was owner of Pendleton Floor Covering. He married Margaret Johnson in 1944.  The couple had three children and later divorced in 1974.  In 1975 he married Dorothy Roberts who later preceded him in death in 1993.  In 1994 he married Yvonne Hastings Conner who passed away October 27, 2016.  Chuck’s hobbies included golfing, fishing and dancing.  He was a member of the Pendleton Eagles Lodge and the Pendleton Elks Lodge, both of which he was past president, and the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades. 

He is survived by his step-daughters Maryetta Baker of Pendleton, OR; and Carrie Oglesbee of Pendleton, OR; grandchildren: Brigette Brandhagen & husband Mike of Pendleton, OR; Spencer McCloud & wife Margarita of Portland, OR; Erin Chapel & husband Justin of Reno, NV; Doug Obrist, Alan Obrist and David Obrist; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives Margaret Johnson, Dorothy Roberts and Yvonne Hastings Conner; his son Steve Bunker, and daughters Lynn Obrist and Terry Handlos, grandson Klint Bunker, his parents and five sisters.
