Lyle Dunham Rogers, 92, of Pendleton died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at a Pendleton care facility.

He was born April 17, 1924, in Morrill County, Nebraska, to William Wesley and Hazel L. (Bear) Rogers.  He was raised in Bayard, Bridgeport and Alliance, Nebraska, graduating from Alliance High School with the class of 1943.  While in high school Lyle set Nebraska state records in track & field events and held them for many years.  He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 in a non-combat position in India.  He married Betty Doris Messersmith in Alliance, NE, on September 27, 1947.  They made their home in La Grande and Pendleton, Oregon.  As a Teamster, Lyle was a truck driver for Arden Farms, Pendleton Lumber Yard and Aratex, retiring in November of 1989.  Lyle and Betty enjoyed spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona, and traveling in their RV during retirement.  He was a member of the VFW and the Pendleton Elks Lodge.  He served as president and Dress-Up Parade Chairman for the Main Street Cowboys.  Lyle enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, dancing and restoring VW Bugs.  He recently lived at Sun Ridge Retirement for six years.

He is survived by his children Dennis Lee Rogers & wife Kathy of Mount Angel, OR; and Connie Lu Snowberger & husband Gary of Cupertino, CA; a brother Maurice H. Rogers of La Grande, OR; a brother-in-law Kenneth Messersmith of Alliance, NE; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and twenty-five nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Doris Rogers; his father William Wesley Rogers; his mother Hazel L. Rogers King; and brothers, Ralph A. Rogers and Thomas W. Rogers.

Lyle and Betty was our neighbors you couldn't ask for nicer people to live by, was always there for us, they both will be very much missed❤️! Our prayers and hugs to there kids and there family!
