Ishmael James Elam Cheney

August 24, 1927 – February 10, 2016

Ishmael James Elam Cheney, (Jim), a resident of Milton-Freewater, OR passed away February 10, 2016 in Pendleton, OR of natural causes.  Sign the online condolence book at  Burns Mortuary of Pendleton was in charge of arrangements. 

Jim was born August 24th 1927 in Boswell, Arkansas, and resided most of his adult life in Wenatchee, WA.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served as a signalman and gunner on a cruiser in most of the major conflicts in the South Pacific during WWII.  

Survivors include his wife Arlene, daughter Joanne Shipley, son Jim Cheney, one brother Lonnie Cheney, three sisters Veda Connor, Sarah France and Betty Ross, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great, great, grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his mother Opal Cheney, father Troy Cheney, one brother Troy Laverne Cheney, and two daughters, Carol Ann Cheney and Teresa Harris. 

He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
