February 3, 1932 – January 3, 2016

Maxine Shaw, 83, died on January 3, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.

There will be a Memorial Mass for Maxine Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at 6:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pendleton.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Sign the online condolence book at   Burns Mortuary of Pendleton handled arrangements.  Contributions in memory of Maxine Shaw may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County, and may be sent in care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, PO Box 489, Pendleton, OR 97801.

Maxine was born on February 3, 1932, in Eugene, Oregon.  She was the tenth child of ten children born to Barbara and Louis Kokkeler.  She lived in Junction City, where she worked on the family farm at a young age.  She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Eugene and upon graduating, she enrolled in a vocational school.  Maxine married the love of her life, Jack Shaw, on September 8, 1951, and they were happily married for over sixty years.  While her two children attended St. Mary’s Elementary School she volunteered many hours of her time.  Later she did secretarial work at the Eugene ESD for many years.  Over the years, Maxine enjoyed life to its fullest, keeping busy with gardening, working on rentals, knitting, cooking and baking for hours, and going on casino trips with Jack.

After Jack passed away in 2012, she moved from Eugene to Pendleton to be close to her daughter.  She made her new home at Sun Ridge Retirement Community, where she made many new friends and grew to be very happy there.

Maxine is survived by her son and his partner of many years, David Shaw & Vickie Marks of Concord, CA, daughter Laura Heidt & husband Rex of Pendleton, OR, four grandchildren: Paul, Sarah, Gretchen and Brenna, and seven great-grandchildren.

Dear Laura and the entire family. I'm so sorry for the loss of Maxine. Patrick did make a great point, Jack & Maxine can now be together with our Lord & talk about their great admiration of Obama. I hope my Mom can get in on that conversation too.
With all my love,

Pat Ell

Dear Laura,

Prayers offered for your mother and your family during this time of grief.

Conveniently, I work right next to the Chapel at the University of Portland, so I will add your mother's name to the list of intentions for this week, and pray in thanks for her life.
