William L. Fenton

Bill passed peacefully Christmas Eve from complications due to vascular dementia.

He was born in 1939 in Hillsboro, Ore., and grew up in Portland. He served in the Army in Germany during the Lebanon Crisis.

Bill graduated from Portland State University with a master’s degree in teaching. He taught science labs at Portland State for several years before moving to Pendleton to run the Visual Aide Department and later the Department of Continuing Education.

He loved hunting, fishing, working on cars/and hanging out with friends at his “mini ranch” and coffee in the mornings with Bruce K. Most of all he loved his family and was happiest when doing things with them.

Bill is survived by wife of 50 years, Ruth; sons John (Rosemary) of Pendleton and Jason (Tori) of Hines, Ore.; daughter Jenifer (Jed) of Walla Walla, Wash.; grandchildren Riven Fenton of Pendleton, Rylan Fenton of North Carolina, Rachel and Sarah Fenton of Hines, Ore., Jared (Shellie) and Chet Volkman of Walla Walla, and Isabelle and Juliette Chapman of Pendleton; and great-granddaughter Molly Volkman. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and his faithful lab of six years, Zoey.

No service is planned. Condolences may be posted on the Burns Mortuary website, www.burnsmortuary.com

What a huge Loss. I wish I had half the wit you had Bill. It breaks my heart to think that I won't be able to talk with you anymore. Seeing your picture here really hurts. Thank you for everything you did for me and my family. I feel lucky to have known you. You were a wonderful friend and like no one I have ever met before. I will never forget you.

I was very sad to read of Bill's passing. I really enjoyed knowing him. He was kind, sweet and very funny. I took an AV class from him at BMCC. I graduated in 1975.
10 years later, I came back and taught some evening law classes. What a friendly, kind and funny man he was, and I am so glad that I got to know hiom. I will old you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
