Kathlene Healy Stuvland
January 27, 1927-November 12, 2015

Kathlene Healy Stuvland, 88, of Pendleton died peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 12, 2015, with her daughters by her side.

Kal, as she was affectionately known, was born January 27, 1927, at Heppner, Ore., to James and Kate McDevitt Daly. She was raised on her family’s ranch on Butter Creek. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1945.

‎‏She met F.B.I. special agent John H. Boyajian of Newburyport, Mass., while he was on assignment at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. They were married in Pendleton in 1948. They lived in Chicago and Boston where their two daughters were born. After John’s tragic death in 1956, she returned to Pendleton. She was an office nurse at the Byers Avenue Clinic and later worked for Dr. Brennan and Dr. Bittner. In 1961 she married James P. Healy and moved to Heppner. Jim died in 1972. She remained in Heppner and continued to operate their propane distribution business, Heppner Nor-Gas. She retired and moved to Pendleton in 1992. She married Alan Stuvland in 1994; he passed away in 1996.

Kal enjoyed travel, golf, and her many good friends, but most of all her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her sharp wit, keen insight and generous spirit will be dearly missed.

Kal is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Marty and Jim Lieuallen of Adams, Ore., and Alene and Gerald Rich of Portland, Ore.; the loves of her life, her four grandchildren: Mary Lieuallen (Aaron) Alandt, J.T. (Christy) Lieuallen, John Rich, and Natalie Rich (Tyler) Storti; her three great-grandchildren: Riley Freeman, Rose Freeman and Beckett Storti; her sister, Patricia Boyd of Pendleton; her brother, Charles Daly of Heppner; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Doherty and her husbands.

‎‏Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Friday, November 20, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at Burns Mortuary chapel in Pendleton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 21, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pendleton, followed by interment at Olney Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Anthony Hospice or to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, P.O. Box 489, Pendleton, OR 97801.

Thank you, Aunt Kal, for always being who you are, for all the time spent laughing and telling stories and enjoying good places, good times and good people.

My thoughts are with you as my Mother, Dorothy Thompson, just passed away on October 12, 2015, and she too worked for Drs. Brennan and Bittner. As long as I have known Alene and Gerald Rich, through Good Samaritan, this is something I did not know. The spirit shows us were are connected in many ways. May you find strength in the love and memories which surround you.

I am sorry I couldn't attend any of the services. Kal has been a special part of my life since toddler-hood and part of many good memories. I will miss her. My heart goes out to all of the Daly family especially Marty and Alene in their time of sorrow.
