Wilbur Dale Phillippi
March 14, 1931 – July 6, 2015

Wilbur (Willie) Dale Phillippi, 84 died July 6, 2015, at a care facility in Pendleton, Oregon with daughter Colleen by his side. He was born March 14, 1931 at Milford Twp., Somerset Co., PA.
He was the third child of Wesley and Pearl (Hogan) Phillippi. After graduating high school he attended college at Potomac State in Keyser, WVA, where he met the love of his life, Betty Ann Snyder. They were married March 18, 1950 in Cumberland, MD. Their first child, a boy, Dale Franklin, arrived February 26, 1951. Colleen Susan arrived September 28, 1953.
Wanting a better life for his family, they packed up and moved west to California. Wilbur was able to work for the California Dept. of Forestry fighting fires and working in canneries in the off season. Wanting an 8 to 5 kind of job, he went to work for the USPS, first as a carrier, then worked up into the office and ended with the position of Assistant Postmaster. He left the USPS and was able to begin work for the State of California in the CalTrans department. There he worked taking care of the beautiful landscapes along California’s highways. He attended school so he could work snow removal from Hwy 50 for safe travel to Reno and Lake Tahoe.
He and Dale were involved in Little League and Boy Scouts. Wilbur took the family to several Giants games when you could see the SF Bay from Candlestick. He supported Colleen in her love of animals, going with her to dog shows.
Wilbur was a man of God. He loved the Lord and served in many ways the churches they attended over the years. Sacramento First Church of the Nazarene was their last church family, which they loved very much.
He is survived by son, Dale Franklin (Linda) Phillippi; daughter, Colleen Susan (Bernard) Hewes; niece, Cheryl (Dennis) Forrester and children; niece, Amy (Michael) Smith and child, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by Xuyen (Thuy) Phan and their sons’ Vu and Huy and families. Wilbur and Betty along with their church, sponsored the family when they arrived in America. Wilbur and Betty loved them as their second family.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty Ann (Boops), brother, Donald; sister, Dorothy Smith; and his parents.
Funeral will be July 15, 2015, at 11:00 am, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sacramento, CA.  Sign the online condolence book at www.burnsmortuary.com
