Helen Jobes

January 25, 1930 – June 10, 2015

Helen M. Jobes peacefully passed away on June 10, 2015, at Hospice House at the Chaplaincy in Kennewick, Washington, at the age of 85.

She was born in American Falls, Idaho, to Joseph and Mary Kucera and was the youngest of 10 children.  Helen graduated from American Falls High School and moved to Pendleton, OR, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Dennis Jobes.  They later moved to Pilot Rock where they owned and operated the Pilot Rock Grocery.  They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Dennis passed away in 2006.  Over the years Helen and Dennis could be seen at sporting events and activities supporting their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Helen was an active member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Pilot Rock where she was involved with the Altar Society.  In recent years she joined the Schoenstatt Movement through the Catholic Church which brought her spiritual renewal and many close friends.  In the past 2 years she was a member of St. Andrew’s Mission Church.  Helen always had a passion for gardening and had one of the most beautiful yards in Pilot Rock.  For her efforts, she had earned the Pilot Rock “Yard of the Month Award”.  She also took great pride in her town and its youth and was named the Pilot Rock Citizen of the Year for her efforts in city beautification and cleanup with help from local middle and high school students.  Helen was a homemaker and “the glue” of her family.  Family members radiated toward her.  She was an extremely loving mother who taught her children kindness and generosity.  Helen was a compassionate soul and always sought out the good in others.  She leaves behind a lifetime legacy of love and great memories shared by her family and friends.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Helen recently moved to Legacy Cottage in Kennewick, WA, where she was under the care of compassionate and loving caregivers.  Helen was preceded in Heaven by her husband, Dennis; sons, Ron and Dean; daughter, Marla Michael; grandson, Travis Sampson as well as her parents, her three sisters and five of her brothers.  Helen is survived by her son, Jim (Nancy) Jobes of Keizer, OR; daughters, Valorie (Sonny) Sampson of Pilot Rock and Belinda (Dave) Roberts of Pasco, WA.  She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and her brother Edward Kucera.

Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 1:00 PM at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Pilot Rock, with Interment following at Pilot Rock Cemetery.  A small reception will follow in the church hall.  Sign the online condolence book www.burnsmortuary.com   Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is handling arrangements.

Val, Belinda, Jim, and all your families;
I am sorry for your loss, you will all be in my prayers. Some of my earliest memories center around your mother making us all laugh. I see her giving me 'the look' and hear her calling me Jimmy McMahon like she was sitting right here in a chair beside me. She will be very much missed.

My condolences to the Jobes family. Helen was a wonderful friend who experienced so much heartbreaking loss through the years. While she'll be missed by many, we can take comfort knowing she's in Heaven with her Lord Jesus and the loved ones who preceded her to that eternal home.

I remember her. She was among the many friendly faces I recall when I think back on my childhood in Pilot Rock, masses at St Helen's, potlucks/gatherings. She was a part of the community which made that little hamlet always and forever feel like home in my memories. My deepest condolences to the family, and to all of the community. She will be missed.

Dear Mom/Grandma Helen,
You have been a constant blessing in all of our lives. You've been part of my life since 1976, and later became my mom-in-law, life-long friends with my family, and a wonderful grandma to our children, Luke & Samantha. You were always supportive, full of life and laughter, even with so many heart-breaking tragedies to endure. We know you are in heaven dancing with ALL of our loved ones. Give everyone a hug for us! See you on the other side...All our love, Janie, Sami, Luke & Ray.

Jobes family,
As I have gotten older, most of my memories from my youth are quite faded. But I have some very fond memories of the Jobes household and Helen in particular! Even with a houseful of her own, she always welcomed a couple more to the days events! She was always so warm and had a ready smile and laugh. Belinda, I remember us reading all those books you had about saints. I believe we thought we could become that "good." :D
I send you all my deepest sympathy. In talking to mom the other day, I know she is so sad to lose one of her oldest and dear friends. You guys take care of each other!

Dear Jobes Family members,
We have lost such a lovely woman who never knew a stranger, contributed in so many ways to our church, shared her beautiful outlook and sweet smile, and simply was a gift to everyone from God. Now she will join her deceased family and friends and enjoy the fruits of her earthly endeavors by being welcomed to eternity by her Savior. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
