Mary M. Isley
March 13, 1928-June 19, 2014

Mary M. Isley, 86, of Pendleton went home to her Creator Thursday, June 19, 2014, in Pendleton. She was born March 13, 1928, in Wheeler, South Dakota, to Howard Dell Rentelman and Mona Mary Rentelman. She was an enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
The family lived on Whetstone Island in the middle of the Missouri River for nine years. Mary and her siblings attended the one-room Mulehead School on the mainland near Bonesteel, South Dakota, through the eighth grade. They moved to Oregon in 1944 to work in the shipyards during World War II; Mary worked there as a welder until the shipyards burned down in 1945. She then worked at Nabisco for a year.
She married Edmund Pirkle, and they were divorced after a few years. She was a single mother who often sought help from her parents to care for her family.
In 2003 she married Madison Lee Isley in Hermiston, Oregon. In the early years of their married life they went on several trips to visit her brothers in Jerome and Pocatello, Idaho. They also went to Portland and Salem to visit her sister Nadine Lilly and her daughter Wanda Daimler. They went hunting and fishing and had a great time visiting family. It was the happiest time of her life. Madison passed away Feb. 2, 2012.
Mary enjoyed fishing, hunting and most outdoor activities. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. She was the finest person you would ever want to meet, and helped everybody that she possibly could. She was one in a million. Mary loved her family very much and she will be missed by all of us.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary Bryant of Pendleton and Wanda Daimler of Salem; son Les Isley of Pendleton; sister Nadine D. Lilly of Gresham; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and six brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. at McKay Creek Estates in Pendleton.
