Lela M. Looslie, a longtime resident of Pendleton, passed away January 1, 2014. She was 81 years old. Lela was born in Vale, Oregon on December 24, 1932 to Carl D. Powell and Zelda (Rose) Powell.

Lela attended school and grew up in Bates and Baker City, Oregon. She married Garry A. Looslie on June 22, 1952, in Baker City; they were married 60 years before his death in 2012.  Garry joined the US Army in May of 1953 and they lived in Missouri, until returning back to Oregon in May of 1955. They lived in La Grande until 1964 and moved to Pendleton where they made their home.

Along with raising her two girls and taking care of her family, Lela worked at several businesses during her career. She was highly respected for her bookkeeping and accounting skills. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friend, the outdoors, camping, gardening, playing cards and traveling. Lela and Garry made a point of visiting all the states in the continental US upon their retirement.

Lela is survived by her two daughters; Debbie and husband Tom Schmidt of Warrenton Oregon, Lynda and husband Steve Garner of Pendleton, granddaughters Teresa Rush of Portland Oregon, Tiffany Boothe of Astoria Oregon and Nichole Garner of Pendleton, two  great-granddaughters Tėa Rush of Portland and Terrance Leeann Garner of Pendleton, brother Duane and wife Nita Powell of La Grande and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Garry, father Carl, mother Zelda, step-father Morris Brock, sister Della Gibbons, brother-in-law Gene Gibbons and sister Bonnie.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday January 18, 2014, at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Hospice and may be sent directly or in care of Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, PO Box 489, Pendleton OR 97801. I fondly remember both Lela and Garry and the Christmas trips to the mountains to get our trees. Lela and Garry were a lot of fun to be around.
