Jeffrey Clay Beers of Hermiston, Oregon passed away on December 20, 2013 in Richland, WA.  Viewing will be held Thursday, December 26, 2013, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.  Memorial services will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1401 SW Goodwin Pl., at 11 am with full military honors.  Disposition was by cremation.

Mr. Beers was born September 14, 1957 at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon to Red and Elnor Beers, the youngest in the family of four children.

Jeff grew up in Pilot Rock and graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1975 prior to enlisting in the Army.  He attended basic training at Fort Knox.  He was an armor reconnaissance specialist with 19 delta recon.  While actively serving in Germany he met his future wife, Rosita Schmidt.  They were married near Pilot Rock, Oregon in 1979.  The couple later divorced.

Jeff worked for a time at Pendleton Bottling Company, the Umatilla County Juvenile Justice Center, and for the past several years proudly served as a Umatilla County Veterans Officer.  Veterans were very important to Jeff and he worked diligently to see they received the benefits that they deserved.

He went to college in later years and received an AA degree in social work from Blue Mountain Community College.

Jeff was an extremely talented writer.  He was a member of the Pilot Rock SDA Church where he served as a deacon for many years.  He was also an avid sports fanatic. He loved hunting big game and some years hunted in four different states.  Whether it was rifle, archery, or muzzleloader, hunting and spending time in the mountains were the passions in his life.

He is survived by his father, S.F. Red Beers of Pilot Rock; daughter Angie Aguilar (Tony) of Pilot Rock; sons Brandon Beers (Sandra) of Elkton, OR and Travis Beers (Kayla) of Pendleton.  Six grandchildren including Ayana, Jovan, and Domanic Aguilar, Brandon C. Beers, Jr., and Aydah and Carter Beers.  Sister, HollyJo Beers, Pendleton, brothers Lloyd Beers (Ronda) of Pendleton; and Michael Beers (Danita) of Pilot Rock.  Also surviving are special companion Linda Coley of Hermiston and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elnor M. Beers, grandparents Lloyd and Rachel Rice, Shirley and Frieda Beers, and Sadie Berglund, as well as nephew, Nathan Beers.

My deepest sympathies to the Beers family. I just found out about Jeff's passing. Jeff and I served together in the U S Army in Mannheim, Germany in the late 1970's. We were both members of the scout platoon. I had not seen Jeff since we were separated from the military but I did get the opportunity to speak with him late last year by telephone. He was a great soldier and a very good friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him including nineteen members of CSC 3/68 Armor Mannheim 1976 - 1980 facebook sight of soldiers that served together with him. Rest in peace my brother in arms. Scouts out.
