Jim W. Newsom
December 15, 1947-November 2, 2013

Jim W. Newsom, 65, died November 2, 2013, at his home in Pendleton. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Cheryl Newsom; sister Sandra Jenkins of Kent, Wash.; brother Ron Newsom of  Moses Lake, Wash.; sons James Newsom and Jason Newsom and daughters Wendy Fischer and Terri McIntyre, all of Pendleton, and daughter Christy Haley of Yakima; and 14 grandchildren.

The youngest of four children, Jim was born December 15, 1947, to Robert and Ethel Newsom in Yakima, Wash. The family lived in Yakima throughout his childhood. In 1966 Jim graduated from Davis High in Yakima. After graduating Jim moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where he began a 20-
year career with Birds Eye Inc. as a warehouse mechanic. In the late 1970s he moved to Salem, Ore., to work for Agripac, still working as a warehouse mechanic. On June 5th, 1983, Jim reconnected with longtime family friend Cheryl McIntyre. The couple relocated to Pendleton in 1985 to join his parents and two brothers. Jim became an independent contractor for numerous companies, traveling state to state working alongside his brother Ron. Eventually he limited his jobs close to home so he could be home each night. After 16 years together the couple wed on June 5th, 1999. Cheryl always said she was going to marry a man just like Jim when she grew up; he truly was her dream man. Jim’s hobbies included fishing and crabbing, collecting old coins and currency. He also collected guns and enjoyed going to gun shows looking for a new addition to his collection. His true passion was muscle cars; his most prized possession was his 1966 Chevy El Camino, which he restored over the years, always making improvements to his car.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ethel Newsom, and brothers Delwin and David.

The family will hold a memorial for Jim next spring.
Cheryl and the family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Hitzman and his staff for 12 years of dedication to our loved one.
