Joyce Corleen Morris – a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, passed away in her sleep on Thursday, September 12, 2013, after an extended illness.  She was 82 years old.

Joyce was born March 27, 1931, to Truman and Wilma Tucker in Walla Walla, Washington.  She grew up and attended schools in Adams and Gibbon.

Joyce married Leonard Schleufer at an early age and they had Joanne.  After Leonard was killed in an accident she met Albert Morris in Athena.

On December 11, 1948, she married Albert Morris.  They had three children; Brenda, Reggie and Peggy.  While raising her own children, Joyce cared for many other children in her home.  Years later she warmly and proudly greeted them when she saw them.

Joyce was a great communicator she valued family and friends.  “Gammy” developed strong relationships with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  A test of their loyalty was their dedication to caring for her during her illness.

In addition to being very social, Joyce was highly active and had a lot of interests.  After her children were grown she raised and rode horses with her husband Al and friends.

Joyce loved growing flowers of all sorts.  She was also musical, played the piano, the organ and liked singing with her sisters.  She challenged herself to continue to learn new instruments.  Along with her appreciation of music she loved to dance and was dancing in spirit to the end.  When she wasn’t socializing, visiting with family, gardening or playing music she was making yummy jams and jellies that she generously shared.

The family thanks the medical staff at St. Anthony Hospital for their dedication and caring during Joyce’s illness.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husbands; Leonard Schleufer, Albert Morris; her three sisters; Bonnie Tate, Marge Bruck and Aileen Faro; her parents; Wilma and Truman Tucker.  She is survived by her children; Joanne Spencer, Brenda Cook  (Dundas Winn), Reggie Morris and Peggy Bronson, grandchildren: Lisa Knox, Justin Peek, Nathan Peek, Andrew Peek, Laura McNealy, Anna Peek, Kama Peek, Jessica Peek, Levi Peek, Ira Draper, Brett Cook (Kathy), James P. Bronson (Rose Sigo), Dionne Bronson (K.C. Picard), Bryson Bronson (Liz) and Alex Morris (Sarah Heise Arroyo).

Viewing will be held Monday, September 16, 2013, between the hours of 1:00 and 5:00 PM and Tuesday September 17, 2013 between 8:00 and 11:00 AM at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton.  Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in the Athena Cemetery, Athena, Oregon.  Sign the online guestbook at   Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.

Sorry for your loss of such a funny wonderful person. Joyce always managed to make me laugh in some way or another. She had wonderful facial expressions that lurk onto her nieces face otherwise known as Trisha Johnson. I see that all to familiar shoulder shrug with a twitch to the mouth and instantly point out a joyce face with much laughter. She will be very much missed and never ever forgotten. Love Amber

Joyce will be greatly missed. I'm so glad I got to see Joyce when I was in Pendleton In August. She made me laugh when she saw me and said my goodness you're whiter then I am. I loved that.
She always enjoyed getting family pictures from our family and recently was updating me on name changes and wanted to make sure I didn't leave anyone out. So I will make it my mission to get a picture to all my family during the holidays in memory of Joyce.
Love to all my family,
Misty Price

We both fondly remember Joyce and Al. We really got to know them very well when we moved next door to their country property. We could set our clocks to their punctuality when they would show up to move the irrigation pipes daily. Franks would visit with Al, while Joyce would keep me very entertained with her gift to tell stories! She was a spitfire for sure & had me laughing in no time. It was an honor to of known them both. May they both rest in peace together! We are so sorry for the Morris family's loss.
With love, Frank & Leslie Udy

I was so sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. She was such a good friend to Dallas and I and was always calling when she wanted to talk. She and Al were such a wonderful part of our lives. Just a month ago she called and we laughed and told each other stories of the "Gas Plant". What a year, and now Joyce, Al and Dallas are up there telling stories of those great times.
I am so sorry about your loss but they all are now in a better place.

Peggy, Reggie & family:

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Peggy, I remember your mom fondly when I would come to your house to visit or when we talked horses. She loved horses and was always fun to visit with about this mare or that gelding. I also remember how vibrant she was and how quick to laugh.

Know that I am thinking of you during this tough time. It is always so hard to lose a parent.
Your friend, Lori (Anderson) JOhnson

I was sad to hear of Joyce's passing. May all the fond memories the family and friends shared with Joyce, help fill the emptiness in your hearts. I will miss the telephone calls I always received from Joyce telling me all the news about her family and asking questions about another family we both knew. My heart goes out to you at this sad time. Glenda
