Helix – Sherrill Gay Winn, 70, passed away unexpectedly May 25, 2013 in Pendleton.  A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, 11 AM,  June 8, 2013 at the Vert Auditorium in Pendleton.

Sherrill was born August 17, 1942 in Pendleton to Gladys and Clifford Miller.  She was raised in Hermiston by her parents until her Father’s untimely passing when she was 10.  Thereafter, Gladys raised Sherrill and her sister and brother as a widowed single Mom.   Sherrill attended Hermiston schools, where she excelled academically and enjoyed many activities including the rally and pep squad.  She graduated from Hermiston High School in 1960.

She married Larry R. Sherrill is survived by her son Shelley and daughter-in-law Lori of Tualatin, daughter Kimberlee of Portland, brother Jack Miller of Portland and sister Lynn Miller of Portland, two grand children, Justin and Trevor, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford Miller and Gladys Miller Howton, and husband Larry Winn.

Had some very bad news the other day
Our dear friend Sherrill passed away.
Guess she was not feeling good
so drove herself to the hospital as only she would.
Where her heart stopped and couldn’t be started again
so that brought to us Sherrill’s end.
We are all so upset about her ordeal
she was one of the main spokes on CCRP/KCNB wheel.
May Sherrill rest in peace is all we can ask
as on this earth she has completed her task.
Our cancer survivors luncheons won’t be the same
Without Sherrill to sign in her name.
So we will gather soon to bid Sherrill good bye
with many a tear in our eye.

Dear Shelley and Kim & Family of Sherry - I was so sorry to learn Sherry had passed away. We just recently had been in touch, after many many years, and planned to see each other soon. We were neighbors of Sherry and Larry on S.W.Sixth Street in Penleton when the kids were small. Our son and daughter (Micki and Michael) would babysit for Sherry and Larry occasinally. We loved the Winn family and had many good times together. Great neighbors and friends. I am so sad that Sherry and I didn't get to have our visit and one more cup of coffee together. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong for each other. My Love and God Bless, Barbara Haines

Dear Shelley & Kimberlee; Your Mom & Dad were a mainstay in our family, as they tended to the farm and to their businesses! Dad liked to have Larry go to Rotary Club with him. Sherrill was mightyly prayed, for when she was undergoing cancer treatment, by our family. I lost my wife to cancer in January of 1996. Larry and Sherrill will be fondly remembered by the Lee Family in Oregon, and Nevada, and British Columbia.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!

To Shelley and Kim -
Your Mom and Dad were one of the first families to welcome me to Helix when I arrived over 35 years ago, and I have always considered them friends. Watching you two and Lori become young adults and move on with your lives was always a topic of conversation when I would see your dad or mom. Even after your dad passed away, you mom held strong and always expressed her pride in both of you through all the ups and downs. Your mother will be missed by many people including one old retired teacher who valued her friendship.

Sherrill was one of the chaperones on our Helix senior class ('73) trip to the Oregon coast and she was so much fun! Years later when we would meet up (usually in Albertsons) we would always talk about travel, and I remember when we discovered each other was Finnish! Sherrill told me about her adventures in Finland and encouraged me to go. I think of that conversation a lot. I will truly miss Sherrill and her megawatt smile. My sincerest condolences go out to the Winn family.
